How to Import Custom Kitchen Cabinets from China: A Complete Buyer's Guide

Why source custom kitchen cabinets from China?

China produces the majority of the world's kitchen cabinetry, and the Yangtze River Delta — where JIUSHU is based — is the densest cluster of whole-house custom factories on earth. For a cabinet dealer, contractor or project buyer, that concentration means real advantages: one factory can cover lacquer, PET, melamine and solid wood lines; hardware ecosystems (Blum, Hettich, DTC) are stocked locally; and export logistics to North America, Europe and the Middle East run we

The trade-off is specification discipline. Kitchen cabinets are dimensional products: a mistake in the shop drawings is repeated hundreds of times. This guide walks through the process we recommend to buyers importing custom kitchen cabinets from China for the first or tenth time.

Step 1: Fix the specification before requesting quotes

The most expensive mistake in cabinet sourcing is requesting prices before the specification is fixed. Prepare three things before contacting any factory:

  • A room plan with wall dimensions, ceiling height, and appliance positions
  • A door style and finish selection (photos or physical samples)
  • Your hardware expectation: brand, soft-close or not, drawer slide rating

Step 2: Understand the shop-drawing checkpoint

A professional whole-house custom factory will not produce directly from your floor plan. It converts your design into manufacturing shop drawings — every cabinet dimensioned, every hinge position marked — and returns them for your written sign-off. This checkpoint is your last and best quality control: verify wall cabinet heights, filler positions, and appliance clearances line by line. Production speed and claim disputes are both decided here.

Step 3: Control landed cost with flat-pack

Assembled cabinets cost two to three times more to ship than the same units flat-packed. A standard 20'GP fits a trial order of a full small kitchen program in K/D form; assembled shipping often pushes the same order to 40'HQ prices. Specify knock-down construction with cam-lock or minifix joinery, and confirm the factory provides labeled parts and per-room packing lists so your installer or customer can assemble without guesswork.

Step 4: Inspect before shipment

Book a pre-shipment inspection — ours, yours, or a third party such as SGS or QIMA. For cabinets, the checklist is short but strict: door gaps and alignment on every unit, edge banding adhesion at corners, hardware brand verification against the PI, and a carton drop-test on sample packing. Claims after the container leaves are harder for everyone.
